About the role

Amazon is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team at IST2 Fulfillment Center in Istanbul. As we expand our capacity to 350,000 units with advanced automation systems including tote sorters, Ambaflex spirals, and extensive conveyor networks, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing our automated material handling systems. Key job

responsibilities

Troubleshoot and repair automated material handling equipment including tote sorters, conveyors, Ambaflex spirals, and sortation systems

Program, maintain, and optimize Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) including Allen Bradley, Siemens, and other industrial control systems

Monitor and maintain SCADA systems, HMIs, and building management systems

Perform root cause analysis on automation failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide technical support for automation systems across all shifts

Collaborate with Controls Engineering, Operations, and RME teams to implement automation improvements

Develop and maintain documentation including electrical schematics, PLC programs, and standard operating procedures

Lead automation projects including system upgrades, installations, and commissioning of new equipment

Train and mentor technicians on automation systems, troubleshooting techniques, and safety protocols

Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and Amazon's maintenance best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical-Electronical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related technical field with bachelor degree.
  • 2+ years of experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Siemens, or equivalent platforms)
  • Experience with automated material handling equipment, conveyor systems, or sortation systems
  • Knowledge of electrical systems including3-phase power, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial sensors
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control system documentation
  • Proficiency in English for technical communication and documentation
  • Advanced PLC programming skills including structured text, function blocks, and HMI development
  • Experience with SCADA systems, industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet), and building automation systems
  • Familiarity with automated material handling systems (conveyors, sorters, pack machines, robotic systems)
  • Lean Manufacturing, or TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) certification
  • Experience leading automation projects including system design, installation, and commissioning
  • Knowledge of safety systems including light curtains, safety PLCs, and machine guarding standards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using data to drive maintenance decisions
  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call support for critical automation issues
  • Turkish and English language proficiency
